SOUNDTRACK: May Playlist
Hey friends! I first want to apologize for slacking on the playlist blogs. but, I got a really good playlist for y’all this month and I am so excited to share these songs with you! So these songs are all songs that I currently listen to pretty much everyday. If I’m in the car, chilling in my room, bored out of my mind, or at the beach you will most likely find me listening to these songs. So, I’m going to give these songs and reasons why I love them/how I found the song if it is relevant. I hope you enjoy this blog post!
The Weekend – Funk Wav Remix by SZA and Calvin Harris
So I love this song. I love the beat of it and I like the remix a lot more than the original. I think the remix gives it a little more kick to it and a little more vibe. This is a perfect summer song to jam to in the car or at the beach. SZA has a lot of really great songs so there might be another one by her in here.
Want You Back by 5 Seconds of Summer
When I first heard this song, I heard it like a month after it came out and my first thoughts were that 5SOS finally found their sound. I love this song and everything about it. The beat, the lyrics, everything. This song is so relatable and catchy and has a really good beat that makes me just want to sing the lyrics at the top of my lungs. I’ve always loved these guys but this song, hands down, is my favorite by them.
I Heart Banana by Kamillion
This song cracks me up yet gets me so hype at the same time. I heard it on the radio, which I hardly ever do, but I had to Shazam it to find out what song it was but once I heard it that one time, I had to listen to it more and more. Now I probably listen to this song everyday.
Powerglide by Rae Sremmurd, Swae Lee, Slim Jxmmi
This song is probably my favorite rap song right now. I think I listen to it about 8 or 9 times a day and sometimes in a row. I haven’t really ever been a fan of Rae Sremmurd but this song is super great.
August by Flipturn
This song is actually by a band that my friend is the lead singer of. Flipturn is a local Fernandina Beach, FL and I actually had classes with Dillon the singer at Jacksonville University. This band impresses me so much because they were able to remind me why I like music so much. I love everything about their music from the feel that it gives me when I listen to the texture in Dillon’s voice when he sings. If you like the song, look them up on Spotify and listen to more of their music and give them a follow on Instagram @flipturnband.
Electric by Alina Baraz (feat Khalid)
I found this song on a Spotify playlist one day when I was just browsing new music (or new to me music). When I first heard it, I instantly fell in love with this song. This is one of my favorite songs ever. I love the vulnerability that you can hear in their voices when they sing and I love the whimsical, almost trippy, sound that the music gives.
20 Something by SZA
This song is honestly so relatable for me right now. The chorus, where it talks about being 20 something and being alone and not having anything to your name. As a recent college graduate with no current plans for the future, I can completely relate to that line and this song in general. I told y’all SZA would find her way in this playlist again.
Look Alive by BlocBoy JB and Drake
I think everyone who listens to rap music has been listening to this song since it came out. I really love Drake, he’s one of my favorite rappers. This song is just another one to add to the list of all of the Drake songs that I love.
Wasted Times by The Weeknd
When The Weeknd dropped his new album My Dear Melancholy, I had to jump the bandwagon and listen to it. I’ve always been a fan of The Weeknd but never really rushed to hear any of his new music, but I am so glad I did this time. He has this way of making the listener really connect to him and his music. I love that he always tells a story in his music, if you listen closely to the words. That’s one of the reasons I love this song.
Playinwitme by KYLE (feat Khelani)
My sister actually showed me this song and I love it. Again this is another song that has a good beat that fits this summer. This is a song that I go to for when I’m driving and singing in the car. I love Khelani and this song a lot. If you haven’t heard it, listen to it now!
Bickenhead by Cardi B
When Invasion of Privacy came out and I listened to this song for the first time, I told my friend Darby, “this song is gonna get big.” Then the next day I heard it on the radio. I was in shock. Usually it takes a song that I listen to at least a month to get really popular, but I think we all know that Cardi B has her way of getting in the charts.
Close to You by Rihanna
This song is so beautiful and under appreciated. I think that Rihanna has always made beautiful music but this song hits so hard. I think we all have that one person that we always want to protect and be there for and have in our lives and this song is all about that. I love the line that says, “Know you don’t need my protection but I’m in love can’t blame me for checking.” That line is just so sweet because it’s like I know you don’t need me but I want to be there for you.
Before I Go by Sidereal
This song is by a local Jacksonville, FL band that was somewhat big around my area of town. When this song was first recorded, a guy who went to my school who is on the track, played it for me and a few other people. I loved it! I recently thought of it and have been listening to it non-stop. I forgot how good it was. It is such a summer jam that I will be listening to all summer long. Go check it out, it’s on Spotify and on iTunes as well so show some love!
Focus by H.E.R.
This is another song that I find so beautiful. It’s such a chill song and has a beautiful string sound to it. I also love the lyrics. This song is so pretty but it’s also a little sad. It gets me in my feelings every time I listen to it because she’s talking about how even when they are together, she still feels alone and all she wants is for him to focus on her.
You Don’t Do It For Me Anymore by Demi Lovato
This is another song that my sister showed me. I had heard a few of Demi’s new songs from her latest album, but not this song at the time and I was a little skeptical before listening to it. I have never really been a huge Demi Lovato fan but after listening to this song it kind of reminded me of the songs that I do like of hers. One thing about Demi that I love is that she is a powerhouse singer. Her voice is so powerful and for this song, its perfect.
That’s it for this playlist. I hope you enjoy this May playlist. I am going to try and post monthly playlists and seeing as I don’t really have much going on in my life right now, I should have plenty of time to keep up with that. Please share this playlist and follow me on Spotify! Please like and comment what genre music you would like me to focus on for next month or if you like the split of rap and whatever else kind of music. Don’t forget to read my last playlists for more music! See ya next month with another great set of music!
